How these figures are worked out

Every figure comes from the vendor records behind this site's price pages and is worked out again each time the site is built, so it always matches the bills on the pages it summarises. None is typed in by hand.

What is counted. An API counts when it is still sold to new buyers and has a dated reading of its own pricing page. APIs the vendor has retired, that are closed to new buyers, that publish no price, or that bill in a way a per-page or per-search job cannot be priced on are left out. An API whose pricing page changed and is waiting to be checked again still counts, at its last confirmed price and with that reading's date. Each figure says how many APIs it counts and out of how many.

How plans become bills. Each API is priced for one stated job on its own published plans, the cheapest way its prices allow: 100,000 pages a month for web scraping APIs, with JavaScript rendering unless a figure says otherwise and one attempt in 20 failing, billed where the vendor bills failures; 100,000 searches a month for SERP and web search APIs; 200 browser hours a month for cloud browsers; and 100,000 extractions a month for AI extraction APIs. Prices are in US dollars, billed monthly unless a figure is about paying yearly.

What enters a median or a lowest price. Only complete bills: a bill that rests on an assumption the vendor's page does not settle, a one-off credit pack, a published minimum with no full price, or no price at all stays out. The median is the middle bill of those counted, or the average of the middle two when the count is even. A price per 1,000 is the monthly bill divided by the thousands of units in the job, so it includes any plan fee.

Multiples and savings compare each API with itself before the median is taken: its rendered price per page against its plain one, its price per page at 1,000,000 pages a month against 10,000, and, for paying a year ahead, its largest saving on a plan it sells both ways.

Dates. Each figure gives the first and last day on which the pricing pages it counts were read. This site's source watch reads every tracked pricing page each day; a page that did not load, or changed in a way that needs checking, keeps the date of its last confirmed reading, which is why a span can start days before the latest reading.

Price changes count only changes the vendor's own page made: a reading with the old price and not the new one, then a reading with the new price and not the old one, after which this site's record was updated to match. Corrections of this site's own readings are not counted. The record starts on Jul 30, 2026; each change is listed with its dates in the price change record.

Left out of every figure: taxes, proxy traffic and add-ons billed on top of a plan, enterprise contracts sold by quote, and discounts a vendor gives only on request.
