Exa pricing
What Exa Search returns, how search depth and page content are metered, how self-serve and enterprise buying differ, and priced alternatives.
one default result set; no fan-out
Fixed for this page; volume is the control.Every available option was priced in advance from published vendor rules. Changing a control only switches between those checked options; nothing is sent anywhere and no account is needed.

100,000 standard searches
Your stated workload. Every vendor on this site is priced against this same number.

100,000 standard searches
Exa bills failed fetches. This workload assumes none fail, so nothing is added here.

100,000 requests
One attempt is one billed unit for this workload.

Search. Cheapest of every eligible purchase option, not the first plan that fits.
Bars share one linear scale across the 3 counted stages, so a multiplier shows as length. Units differ by stage and are labelled. Cash is not on that scale.
100,000 standard searches → 100,000 request → Search $700.00/mo = $7.00 per 1,000 searches
Cheaper for this job
Same 100,000 standard search calls with one default-depth result set per call, ranked by what you would actually be billed. Unknown totals never enter the numeric order.

What consumes a unit
This is where a bill actually grows. One operation is not one billed unit, and the multiplier is published here rather than on the pricing page.

|---|---|---|---|
| search.query | 1 request | request | source |
| search.deep | 1 request | request | source |
What Exa does not publish
- Search failure billing is not published.
- Self-serve rate limits are not published on the reviewed pricing page.
- The exact scope of the public terms' output-copying restriction for API-integrated customer applications is not clarified on the pricing page.
Product scope and returned result
Exa is a web search API designed for application and agent retrieval. Standard Search returns current search results and can include page contents; Deep Search and Deep-Reasoning Search are separate request types for more involved retrieval and structured research. The pricing page distinguishes Search from Monitors, Answer, and the broader Agent product, so their meters should not be collapsed into one generic Exa request. (Exa API pricing, retrieved 2026-07-26).
For the baseline job in this record, a buyer sends a search request and receives up to 10 results within the base charge. Contents and AI summaries can be requested for returned pages. Enterprise can raise the result count as high as 1,000 and add a custom index or datasets, but those features are not part of the standard self-serve baseline. (Exa API pricing, retrieved 2026-07-26).
Every recorded meter
The request type is a replacement meter: Standard Search costs $7 per 1,000 requests, Deep Search costs $12 per 1,000, and Deep-Reasoning Search costs $15 per 1,000. Each base request includes up to 10 results. A request uses its selected search type rather than adding all three base rates. (Exa API pricing, retrieved 2026-07-26).
Three recorded additions can change the total:
- Each result above the first 10 costs $1 per 1,000 additional results. (Exa API pricing, retrieved 2026-07-26).
- Retrieved page contents cost $1 per 1,000 pages. (Exa API pricing, retrieved 2026-07-26).
- AI summaries cost $1 per 1,000 pages. (Exa API pricing, retrieved 2026-07-26).
The reviewed sources do not say whether a failed search request is billable. They also do not publish the self-serve rate limit. Those are unknown, not zero. (Exa API pricing, retrieved 2026-07-26).
Contract path, minimum, trial, and price status
The standard path is self-serve through Exa’s dashboard. New accounts receive $20 of signup credit and the pricing page shows $10 in recurring monthly credit. No minimum purchase is published for standard API use. A buyer can create an account, select an endpoint, issue an API key, and pay the public usage rates without requesting a quote. (Exa API pricing, retrieved 2026-07-26).
Enterprise is a contact-sales path for higher volume, more than 25 results, custom QPS, custom indexes or datasets, zero data retention, security review, SLAs, MSAs, onboarding, and support. A buyer should bring monthly request and result volume, latency and QPS needs, desired content or summary add-ons, retention requirements, index scope, and procurement documents. Those are the quote dimensions named on Exa’s Enterprise section. (Exa API pricing, retrieved 2026-07-26).
Exa therefore does publish prices. The missing monthly plan field reflects pay-as-you-go endpoint pricing, while only enterprise terms are custom. Public terms also restrict copying, distributing, publishing, licensing, or selling information from the service except where permitted, so output rights belong in the buying review. (Exa terms, retrieved 2026-07-26).
Priced alternatives
- Tavily Project starts at $30 per month. (Tavily API credits, retrieved 2026-07-26).

- Firecrawl Hobby starts at $16 per month when billed annually, or $19 month to month. (Firecrawl pricing, retrieved 2026-07-26).
