    100,000 standard searches

Brave Search API does not bill failed fetches, so failures cost nothing here.

Bars share one linear scale across the 3 counted stages, so a multiplier shows as length. Units differ by stage and are labelled. Cash is not on that scale.

What Brave Search API does not publish

Product scope and returned result

Brave Search API exposes Brave’s search index to applications. Its Search product returns result records that can include URLs, text snippets, news, images, alternate snippets, schema-enriched metadata, and optional LLM-oriented context. This differs from Brave Answers, which produces a summarized answer grounded by one or more searches rather than the baseline raw search response. (Brave Search API, retrieved 2026-07-26).

The standard Search offer is suitable when an application needs search records to rank, display, or pass into its own retrieval pipeline. The standard terms matter to that design: they prohibit building a stored database from results, redistributing or reselling results, and using results to train, evaluate, or benchmark AI models unless another agreement grants those rights. (Brave Search API terms, retrieved 2026-07-26).

Every recorded meter

The baseline meter is one search request per Search API request. Search costs $5 per 1,000 successful requests, and failed requests do not count against the quota. The self-serve plan publishes a 50-query-per-second capacity. (Brave pricing and rate-limiting guide, retrieved 2026-07-26).

The record also preserves the separate Answers meter because it is an adjacent purchase path: Answers costs $4 per 1,000 requests plus $5 per million input and output tokens. Those request and token charges belong to Answers, not to a raw Search call, and should not be added to the baseline Search price. (Brave Search API, retrieved 2026-07-26).

Contract path, minimum, and trial

Standard Search is self-serve through Brave’s API dashboard. The page advertises $5 in automatically applied credit every month, and the record states that a payment card is required for the free-credit program. No minimum monthly spend is published. A buyer selects Search, creates an account and API key, and can begin at the public request rate without negotiating a quote. (Brave Search API, retrieved 2026-07-26).

A custom contract is needed for higher volume, custom endpoints or capacity, enterprise support, invoicing, custom agreements, or rights outside the standard storage restrictions. Brave routes that path through a contact form. A buyer should be ready to describe expected monthly requests and peak QPS, which result types are needed, whether outputs must be retained or redistributed, zero-data-retention requirements, and support or invoicing needs. Those are the commercial dimensions Brave identifies on the public Search, Enterprise, and terms pages. (Brave Search API and terms, retrieved 2026-07-26).

Price status and why there is no monthly plan price

Brave does publish a price. What it does not publish is a fixed monthly subscription amount in this record. The standard product is metered directly at $5 per 1,000 successful requests, while enterprise terms are custom. Treating the missing monthly field as “contact sales only” would be wrong. (Brave Search API, retrieved 2026-07-26).

Priced alternatives

  • Tavily Project starts at $30 per month for a search API credit allowance. (Tavily API credits, retrieved 2026-07-26).
  • Olostep Starter starts at $9 per month for search and page-retrieval requests. (Olostep, retrieved 2026-07-26).
  • Firecrawl Hobby starts at $16 per month when billed annually, or $19 month to month, and includes search among its metered operations. (Firecrawl pricing, retrieved 2026-07-26).
