What is a SERP API?

A SERP API is a service that accepts a search query and returns search-engine result information in a structured response. SERP means search engine results page; the API handles the search request and parsing so the buyer does not have to collect and interpret the result page directly. (SerpApi pricing, DataForSEO SERP API pricing, and Bright Data SERP API billing, checked 2026-07-26.)

In more detail

The vendor examples below were read on the dates given in the text; the table above holds each vendor's current figure.

It changes a bill because vendors disagree about the billable unit. One may count a completed search, another may charge by requested result depth and delivery mode, and another may include parsing and internal retries inside a successful-request charge. A query count alone misses result pages, search operators, location options, and prepaid-credit expiry. (DataForSEO cost explanation, Bright Data SERP API billing, and Serper pricing, checked 2026-07-26.)

SerpApi counts one successful search as one billable search, independent of how many results it returns. Cached, errored, and failed searches do not consume the monthly allowance. Its plans also publish hourly throughput separately from monthly searches, so volume and delivery capacity are not the same limit. (SerpApi pricing, checked 2026-07-26.)

DataForSEO is pay as you go and prices Standard Queue, Priority Queue, and Live delivery differently. For several major engines, result depth beyond the default is billed in additional ten-result blocks at seventy-five percent of the base task rate. Search operators apply a five-times multiplier, and funds reserved for failed or errored tasks are returned to the account balance. (DataForSEO SERP API pricing and DataForSEO cost explanation, checked 2026-07-26.)

Bright Data bills each successful SERP request and includes parsing, unlocking, internal retries, bandwidth, and several targeting options in that request. One successful call remains one billable request even when it retrieves one hundred or more results. For asynchronous jobs, the send request is billed and later collection calls are free. (Bright Data SERP API billing, checked 2026-07-26.)

Serper deducts one prepaid credit for each successful response. Purchased credits remain valid for six months, and the product publishes different query-per-second limits for its top-up tiers. This prepaid expiry differs from a recurring monthly search allowance. (Serper pricing, checked 2026-07-26.)

Before signing up, specify the engines, result types, countries, devices, result depth, and delivery mode required. Check whether billing is per query, result, page, or successful response; whether cached calls count; whether credits expire; and whether parsing or asynchronous collection adds another meter. Compare the same result depth and locale, not just the same number of query strings.
