What failed requests cost on each web scraping API
At 100,000 JavaScript pages a month, one request in five failing leaves the bill unchanged on 15 of 17 web scraping APIs and adds up to $65.00 a month on the other 2 (Firecrawl and Hyperbrowser).
Most APIs here bill only the requests that succeed; the rest bill every attempt, so each failure is a page paid for and fetched again. 2 publish no rule either way; their rows say so, and they are priced as if failures were billed. Why a failure can cost more than one request
An API that bills every attempt charges for the blocked or timed-out request and again for the retry that works, so at 80% success it bills 125 requests for every 100 pages kept. On a plan with a fixed allowance that can tip the job onto the next plan, which is why some bills above jump by more than a quarter. An API that bills only successes absorbs the retries in its price.
